QOF and DES

Last year EMIS helped more practices than any other system supplier achieve maximum QOF points.

EMIS has put together a series of courses for practices who want to achieve a higher Quality Outcome Framework (QOF) score, who feel there data is in need of a spring clean or for those who simply want to maximise their returns.

From in-depth on-site training to quick online seminars, you can choose the solution that will best suit your needs.

You can find out about the EMIS Quality Points Manager. Click here to watch a 2 minute EQPM overview.

Onsite training: Effective use of Population Manager

If your practice would benefit from training tailored to your needs, then onsite training is the perfect solution.

An experienced EMIS Operations Manager will visit your practice with a bespoke training session to:

  • help address your specific queries e.g. are you struggling to check denominator populations or confused by the patient check in facility?
  • implement data validation procedures, to ensure your data is as accurate as possible e.g. can’t work out why the nGMS alert is displayed when all relevant data is added?
  • ensure you have the knowledge to improve your QOF performance e.g. wondering why a patient is displayed as ‘not included’ when there does not seem to be any data missing?

Duration: 3 hours, maximum of four delegates.

Workshop: QOF

Throughout the day you will participate in group discussions, explore real-life scenarios and learn ways to achieve higher QOF points to maximise your return.

The workshop will cover:

  • QOF Ruleset 09/10 changes
  • Patient alerts
  • Population Manager
  • EMIS DES Pack
  • EMIS Quality Points
  • Manager (EQPM)
  • Duplicate patients
  • Problem management

  • Searches
  • Templates

Duration: 10am - 4pm.

Population Manager refresher training

  • Do you wonder why your patients are still displayed in Not Included when there does not seem to be any data missing from their medical record?
  • Do you understand the Check Patient facility?
  • Do you wonder why the nGMS alert is displayed on a patient, even though you have added all the relevant data?
  • Do you understand denominator populations?
  • Would you like to know more about the new Look Ahead feature that is coming out soon?
  • Are you struggling with your last few points in Population Manager?
  • Do you just need a little help with Population Manager?

If you have answered ‘yes’ to any of the above questions, why not consider booking a half day refresher training session on Population Manager? An experienced Operations Manager will visit your practice and provide you with a bespoke training session to help answer your Population Manager queries and ensure you have the knowledge to improve your QOF performance.

Training Needs Analysis (TNA)

Any process for change needs to start by identifying the gaps and generating a clear plan
EMIS can provide a detailed TNA for practices, local health authorities and trusts to assist in recognising the appropriate training for practice staff. The analysis will help to obtain, through accurate research, data that will provide a reliable profile of the abilities of all practice staff so that the EMIS clinical system is used to its full capabilities. This in turn will help to develop the skills of a cross section of practice staff to enable them to train and support other users and new staff, to effectively use the EMIS clinical system whilst building on the strengths of those key users able to share their skills.

The TNA should be used on a one to one interview basis. The practice should set aside dedicated time for each interview which may take 30 to 40 minutes.

EMIS Scanning & Attachments Training

If you are not currently using the EMIS Scanning & Attachments module, now’s a good time to start
We can help you to reduce unnecessary admin time and take a step nearer to becoming a paperless practice. EMIS scanning software enables you to scan and attach correspondence and digital images directly to a patient’s clinical record so they are available at any time from within the system.

Patient care is greatly enhanced by having the correct information at the touch of a button during the consultation, enabling clearer diagnosis and promoting greater efficiencies within the practice. See PI030 Scanning Training for more details.

Progressing towards paperlight (seminar)

How far have you got towards becoming paperless?
Let us help provide hints and tips to help you progress to the next step. With the emphasis of the NHS strategies on ‘People not Paper’ many practices are taking steps towards becoming paper-light to replace paper flows and benefit their practice by easier access to accurate data, sharing information with PCT and other health care communities, freeing storage space, enabling faster response to patient enquiries and increasing available staff time to support patient care.

The session will help you to consider the implications and benefits in reducing paper flows, identify the paper processes in preparation for a controlled migration away from paper, prepare disaster recovery policies, implement security procedures in line with Caldicott and Data Protection Policies, learn shortcuts and faster methods for adding data to your EMIS system and develop a practice plan for moving paperlight. See PI036 Progressing Towards Paper Light for more detail

Maximising the use of EMIS LV/PCS (seminar)

Are your clinical staff all confident users of the system?
This seminar is designed to enable you to make the best use of your EMIS system in the consulting room and to provide hints and tips on other areas of the system.

The course content includes learning how to add and review problems, link problems and medication, use problem management, view and use patient summary information, use QOF alerts, create and use quick keys (LV) or consultation presets (PCS). See PI063 Maximising the use of EMIS for more details.

Summarising patient notes training

Explore the most effective ways of summarising patient notes electronically.
Once you have mastered the basics of scanning this session will enable you to produce a notes summarising procedure, and in addition help to maximise your QOF points. The session includes valuable advice and guidance on creating a practice procedure to ensure all staff are coding notes and summarising records effectively.

Summarising notes will enable the practice to obtain up to 45 points within the nGMS Contract records and information. We will provide advice and guidance on creating a practice procedure for summarising patient notes and provide training on how to use your clinical system to its full potential. This will enable your practice to meet other clinical indicators through effective data entry, maximise efficiency by using a preferred clinical terms set and increase knowledge through useful handouts. See PI031 Summarising patient notes training for more details.
